Hi David, David Costa wrote:Well it can reach beta but not stable, personally I don't mind having my new packages in alpha or beta stage till PHP 5 is stable, but again I am really pro PHP 5 since the first beta...To me offering a PHP 4 package now would be useless. PHP 5.0.0-dev is out and the first release will follow soon. If I user doesn't want to move to PHP 5 till it is officially stable that would be still fine because I believe Hans package will take few months to reach a stable release.Yes, that's right, it'll be awhile before it's stable. Plus I think there's a PEAR suggestion/requirement that any PHP5 class remain in alpha state until PHP5 is stable (or longer). I think that makes sense (well, I would say that a PHP5 package shouldn't be stable until PHP5 is stable; I don't know about "alpha").
Question: since lukas said that "BTW: We want PHP4 compatible packages to work in E_ALL. Packages that are PHP5 only need to work with E_STRICT imho. This however means that they cannot use PEAR.php." I just posted a PHP 5 only proposal which needs PEAR for the error handling. If you have time, could you tell me how would you handle it (see my proposal under MP3_Playlist) without including PEAR for errors handling ? I would just do like you did "throw new Exception("Unable to open file: $filename"); " right ? Perhaps (If you are really bored :-D) you can tell me how would that change on my source for errors handling ? ;) Cheers David CostaPerhaps with an extended offering of PHP 5 only package more people will have a good reason to switch. That's what I'm hoping. :) There's not a lot of insentive if all PEAR classes are PHP4-compatible (read: take advantage of none of the new features in PHP5).
