I guess arguing about putting a PHP5 only package into PEAR is somewhat of a moot point when you consider that there are already PHP5 only packages that exist (and are simply marked as beta). PHPUnit2 (" ! PHP 5.0.0-RC2 (or later) is now required.")?
Please take the time to read what people are saying. Nobody is saying that we shouldnt allow PHP5 only packages. The question is just when it makes sense. PHPUnit2 makes heavy use of PHP5 specific features which are impossible to achieve in PHP4 and they would certainly make the package inferior if PHP4 compatibility would be attempted. As I said a package build around simpleXML is a perfectly good reason which I assume everybody would agree. Same goes for reflections and other PHP5 specific features that cannot be emulated in PHP4 or even if yes make the package much less useful in PHP5. regards Lukas Smith smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07
