[Topic PHP5 packages] If PEAR is gonna to refuse packages coded in plain PHP5 it is going to hit itself. PEAR certainly has to put *very* more thoughts in PHP5 than right now. I know people are repeating that PHP5 is not important until it is widely used, but if we look beyound the borders of PEAR we would see that PHP5 has become quite important yet. Here, I have to agree with Hans - I certainly do want to use PHP5 only packages. Every time I'm writing PHP5 applications I'm missing the awesome code base of PEAR.That's just what i've been thinking. I'm using several PEAR-packages in a large-scale PHP5-app and it sucks that i can't use E_STRICT because nearly all PEAR-packages fail. The first thing i thought of when reading all the "can it be made php4-compatible" and the other answer that critizised the use of exceptions was: Wrong way! How long will PHP4 be popular when PHP5 final is out? Not very long i guess. Of course, existing apps will continue to use PHP4, but all the new users that will come (and i think that it will be far more than everyone thinks...) will use PHP5 naturally and won't understand why PEAR-packages do it the compatible way. I think everyone must to accept that there will be more and more PHP5-only packages. Just my thoughts ;-) Stephan
