Just for clarifying this before I make my comments: I am a pure PEAR
user, I did not yet develop any classes for the project (shame on me ;-))
and I have no personal connections to the people who do, so I think I´ve
got a somehow neutral view of things (except that I like PEAR because of
the ease of use of its base classes and the fact that it has saved me
tons of work already).
Personally, I did not see any hostility in the answers to the original
message. Thomas and Stig have explained why they did things the way they
did and they also admitted that there are some unclean leftovers and
some design flaws that need to be adressed in the future.
They have also explained that the reasons for many of the mentioned
issues have to do with the limited OO capabilites of PHP and that those
issues will likely be resolved when PHP5 is out (which will have most of
the needed features).
But they are also right when they say that some of the design decisions
make perfect sense in a language like PHP - for example method
parameters or return values with dynamic typing.
So I don´t really see where the probem is... from my point of view as an
outsider, both parties are right.

Do you really think talking like this (doesn´t "use your brain" sound a
little hostile in this context?) will convince anyone?
Also, if there were no other developers involved, how did so many
classes find their way into PEAR? And wasn´t there a discussion a while
ago on PEAR-DEV (which I don´t follow regularly, so I might be mistaken)
that your Metabase project is generally considered the better
abstraction class so there should be a wrapper class in PEAR for easy
migration between the packages?
Speaking of that, does anybody know if there´s actually been some action
in this matter or was it all just talk?
Regards,
Markus
