hey all,
ok then we have a problem now. The intl extension can't be used for this problem (at the moment). To be compatible with IDNA2008 why we can't use my extension. If I understood right there is a problem with the GPL license. But my extension is not under the GPL just the C library of libidn2 has the GPL. Is this also a problem for php?
Cheers

hi Sven, We got a reply to the ss vs German one. See http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/ticket/8938 and in the ICU support archive: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=28409118 A possible solution is described there ("I recommend you call the new UTS #46 API with the transitional-mappings option."), that's something we have to investigate for 5.4 final and maybe 5.3. But the result is still the same. fußball still becomes fussball. I expect that fußball becomes xn--fuball-cta. So intl is still not usable for me. Because the IDNA 2008 standard is now supported with ICU 4.8.1.1. It's not that easy. On the latest Debian I tried the intl extension which can be installed by the package management. There I just can install ICU 4.6 which is automatically installed when I install the package php5-intl. Ok how I learned I need 4.8.x. So I installed ICU 4.8.1 and then I wanted to install the intl-extension by using the pecl package that can be downloaded from the pecl website. But this one can't be compiled. I use php 5.3.x. I read that there is a problem to compile intl with php 5.3.x. Just php 5.2 should be possible. The PECL package doesn't work with PHP 5.3, you must use the version that comes bundled with PHP. For instance, you can do this: - compile ICU 4.8 package wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/i/icu/icu_4.8.1.1-1.dsc wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/i/icu/icu_4.8.1.1.orig.tar.gz wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/i/icu/icu_4.8.1.1-1.debian.tar.gz dpkg-source -x icu_4.8.1.1-1.dsc cd icu-4.8.1.1/ sudo apt-get build-dep libicu44 dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b - install packages cd .. sudo dpkg -i libicu48_4.8.1.1-1_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i libicu-dev_4.8.1.1-1_amd64.deb - checkout ext/intl from PHP 5.3.4 (5.3 trunk doesn't work because of new macros) svn co http://svn.php.net/repository/php/php-src/tags/php_5_3_4/ext/intl - compile and install cd intl/ sudo apt-get install php5-dev phpize ./configure make -j 3 install
