I've spent all yesterday experimenting with Installshield and sundry other
installers I downloaded.
Conclusions - Installshield (or at least the Express version I have) is a
numb bit of code - there's no facility I could use for getting data from the
user in order to brew up an appropriate php.ini file.
The other installers I've tried either also lack the power required, or have
real 'dogs breakfast' ad-hoc scripting languages that make me suspect that
they won't do what I want, but I won't find out without wasting many hours.
I'm currently downloading the Wise InstallBuilder which was recommended
earlier - it seems to be well regarded.
I have to say that most of these installer companies know how to charge for
their software! If anyone knows of any competent open source alternatives I
would love to hear about them!
Cheers
