Unless anyone thinks it's a bad idea, I'll have a play with InstallShield this week and see if I can set up an easy installation of at least the win32 cgi version of php.
I think that this is a great idea! Zak Im no installshield Guru but your asking for trouble really, whats it going to do, extract to a dir, put php.ini in $SYS_PATH?? Is this really necessary?? win32 install is very easy anyway, if you get into installing it automatically into apache then maybe but that will require picking a line around about 530 and then verifying it is safe.. inputting data.. That would make it worth it.
Being a recovering windows user, I think that an install shield is a good idea - as long as it works well. :) Many win users have a phobia about installing software - even when the process is ameliorated by an installer. I feel that having an installer will make php much more accessible.
Anyway, if you have time to do it why not.. Just be careful that it works, also Ill hopefully get all ported modules built by the end of the week (swf etc are being hard) so perhaps we should include them too.
I think that this would be great! If it is well done, it should cut down many of the oft-asked questions... - Zak
