I did not even consider that someone might do something daft like set c:\ as their doc root. I suppose that having note in the readme file that advises them that they need to set some options by hand would work. I had initially thought that the user could be coached on how to set this variable during the install process. However, I as started trying to write a short set of instructions, I realized that it would be better to do as you suggest :)
