While I mention GPL in my example its GPL in relation to the "Cross licensing methods usd with GTP NOT GPL itself", maybe I misscommunicated my statements.
You can not use GeoIP in a blind "GPL" bubble,
http://sourceforge.net/projects/geoip/
Free is limited to Country and City, if any other use is provided you have stepped outside of GPL
Then also review
http://geoip.cvs.sourceforge.net/geoip/c/LICENSE?revision=1.2&view=markup
The library and the database are seperate, the geolite database is not GPL, Use of the geolite database REQUIRES certain advertising limits be followed.
The library is useless without following those restrictions because the geolite database at the very least is required to function.
Use of this library will not be possible without advertising maxmind, This is not in the spirit of either GPL or LGPL.

It is even encouraged. As long as you comply with the other limitations set up by the GPL. Commercial use or even selling of GPLed code for money is not at all forbidden, just restricting the rights of those you pass the code on to is.
