I cannot remember any discussions about it.
I think it's the 3rd proposal of this module on PECL-dev.
Neither me but I think it was a mistake. It is very good to finally have a clear rule about this problem. Sadly it happened with your extension. Even if I would prefer a solution to make the GPL compatible with the PHP License (or the other way 'round ;)
Merci beaucoup Pierre! If this was indeed a mistake, I can finally understand why MySQL is different from this situation and why it is not applicable as a base for comparison.
In PEAR you will not be allowed to proposed a GPL package either.
I meant in the way of finding everything you needed at one place. I guess PEAR did not have the same amount of problem with GPL as the code was written in PHP and not linked to external C libs.
You got it wrong. If they change the license to a non GPL license (GPL + exceptions is not possible here either, as explained), then it is fine.
How can it be distributed under something else than GPL and be able to sell commercial license if you do not want to create an open source application? If you distribute it with a BSD license, anyone can take your code and include it in a commercial closed-source application. So what other options are available? You ned GPL to protect the use of your code to open source project only and you need a BSD/PHP style license for PECL. Sincerely, Olivier
