Unprecedently, the events of the last few days got Rasmus and myself to agree on a number of issues within heated discussions :) I really don't think that this change is a good idea. It's extremely unprofessional to change the most basic behavior in PHP in a miniversion. I don't think that it's a necessity to change this at all (you're generating XML using PHP? just change a tiny directive!), but it's definitely uncalled for in a miniversion. Does anybody want to hold a poll on php-general or php.net? (I'm not seriously meaning this, just try to imagine the response). Zeev At 20:39 12/12/2000, James Moore wrote:
OK from time to time there are going to be changes like this, with the new release process in place (and seeming to work) it would take very little to add a LARGE note in ./configure to the user, somthing like: +------------------------------------------------------+

+------------------------------------------------------+ Os somthing similar. THen for win32 the installer can have a nice big message box with it in and the ZIP archive with the binaries in can have a comment. IMHO this would be a semi reliable way of getting a message to the masses. This notice really needs to appear in BOLD white text that will grab peoples attention. James
