James was wrong here. php.ini has nothing to do with the Windows path. The Windows path is used by the operating system to find *executables* (exe's and dll's) only. When you fopen() a file, it only tries to open it in the current working directory - and this applies to php.ini. At 12:45 14/12/2000, Kristian Köhntopp wrote:

Configuration File (php.ini) Path: php.ini
This is correct.. it is looking for the php.ini in the windows path, either c:\windows\ or in the same dir as php.exe will work. Why?? It makes sense on windows path scheme, its the same as when windows looks for dlls, local dir, then system dir, then windows dir. The people having problems do not know about this. They look at the phpinfo() output and do not find any pathnames listed here. If the phpinfo() output listed pathnames, they would instinctively do the right thing. Are the pathnames checked by Windows static or are they dependent on some other information (environment variables or similar external configuration sources)? Is there a way to retrieve the pathnames Windows is actually, really looking at and print them?
