Regarding readline: I believe there is a Non-GPL plugin replacement
for readline. Will search for it.

Good to hear that.
I still suggest a LICENSE file with each extension subdirctory, listing
the explicit license under which that extension is included/can be
included into PHP. It was no fun going through freshmeat and/or the
individual library CVSes to find a license file for them.
