I'm really puzzled by your vote to remove all 'magic' tags. If you don't use them they don't do you any harm. But if you do try to use PHP as HTML-embedded language you'll soon find out that the code becomes very difficult to read if you don't use the 'magic' tags. Combine that with incompatibility of PHP's short open tag with XML, and the reason for having <?php= becomes clearer. I know that different programmers have different coding styles. Mine includes relying on PHP's embedding features rather than using templates and there 'magic' tags come in quite handy. Edin
