The mistakes that you are making are very important later on - a fancy editor will just allow you not to concentrate on the details, which is a thing that will always haunt you. Vim is brutal to learn, but using it will teach you to pay attention to little details. Best to make those type of mistakes now, formulate a strategy to ensure that you do not make them (indenting style, variable naming style, etc) as opposed to having some slick editor hide that from you...
