a good vim tutorial
http://www.networkcomputing.com/unixworld/tutorial/009/009.part1.html
vim (I did not say vi!!!) is vi improved - has syntax highlighting for php3
plus a whole lot more, regular expressions etc... It is all the editor that you
will ever need, and it is available everywhere

Damn straight :)
I tried learning vi a while back

Nope, not at all. I tried tons of editors before I settled on vim (_not_ vi)
and I just got sick of learning new editors. I want to code, not to be an
edtior master. I loved homesite at one point, but I wanted one editor that I
could use anywhere, anytime, and and editor, not an IDE. However, keep in mind
that my experiences led me to this, and yours could lead you elsewhere. I must
admit - I love color coding - thats how I catch my unescaped strings and do
some basic debugging and all that.
