It doesn't play nice, it's a different MS runtime. But non-ZTS would be helpful. There wasn't a noticeable slowdown in PHP 5.2.0 - well not one I noticed anyway - so it might be more recent than that. There have been bits and pieces of info that might help pick out a pattern there... if anyone has time for that I'm still covering internals@ at a rate of roughly one column inch per day (but closely) in the Zend weeklies, and that's a fairly good place to start tracking down relevant threads. Sorry if that sounds like an ad, it's just that writing those summaries is the only reason this isn't complete news to me. - Steph ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Smith" <emsmith@elizabethmariesmith.com> To: "Madeleine D." <chezmmd@yahoo.com> Cc: "PHP-GTK dev" <php-gtk-dev@lists.php.net> Sent: Friday, June 15, 2007 12:19 AM Subject: Re: [PHP-GTK-DEV] Beta: Call for testing

I setup and ran the 2.6.9 zip version on one of our Win98SE's. Went very smooth on the install. Nice job. Only thing that struck me is that the demo seemed a little slow to load. I had an earlier version from Steph that only took about 4 secs; this one took 8 secs. No big deal. Just a note for what it's worth. I'll carve out some time in the next few days to test the Gtk2 app I'm working on. thanks, Madeleine D.
Actually that slowdown is not limited to just the 2.6.9 libs - I've also noticed a gradual slowdown as well but I have no idea what's causing it. The biggest slowdown happened when jumping from PHP 5.1.x to 5.2.x - this is built against PHP 5.2.3 right now. I can try a build against the 5.1.x branch to see if the slowdown is something php-gtk2 is doing or if it's something PHP is doing - but probably not until this weekend. And as Steph said (in something that just popped into my mailbox) I can do a non-zts build which is 30% faster or more. (If you're really brave I can do a MSVC8 build as well which really speeds things up - cli doesn't have any of the extension loading issues with the newer compiler that plagued other SAPIS - however I'm not sure how nice MSVC8 plays with WIN95/98) I also am doing "stock builds" atm - I can start chopping out stuff in PHP that php-gtk2 really doesn't use (session? json?) as well to save size (I have no idea if it affects speed) -- PHP-GTK Development Mailing List (http://gtk.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
