Well.. yes and no... If you are afraid of making mistake, you can force yourself to never use += -= *= operators, because you can simply write $a = $a + $b But if PHP introduces the ?: operator, you have to use it and there is no other way around. As for others, I am +1 on the function name. I really think PHP should not have fuzzy operators like in Perl. Can you easily tell me what ||= (or something similar) does in Perl?
