Logic: At present the approval process is not tied into the voting system.. It also gives a human check into the system.. I guess the logic is, if you can wait two weeks for the voting process, a day or so (at worse) delay releasing it, is not that bad..
Still no reply from the PEAR Group... Are you on holidays or what ??? Now I have to postpone the release to next week. Thanks...
Packages are usually approved within hours. However currentl php.net mail is foobar. I actually never got an email that the packages was registered.
Could in the future this process be automated as, as time goes by, it seems that the PEAR Group is becoming less and less reliable/available. If a package has been accepted by the community, I don't see why the PEAR Group should have anything more to say. Do we actually care about what the PEAR Group has to say about packages ? No, if the PEAR Group has things to say, well, there is a comment system in PEPr for that. Use it, just like anyone else !
I think there should be a human step in the process. For example conditional votes matter. If there are alot of negative votes it might be useful to first explore why and how because maybe the call for votes was initiated too early. Again it usually takes a few hours, seldom a day but with our current mail issues it just slipped by. Why is the PEAR Group doing this? Well for one I am not aware of the better group to handle this atm. Also the Group did reserve a veto for itself.
The role of the PEAR Group is somewhere else (I don't know where, but you might know better). So now, just click on the button that says "Validate this proposal" and let's all continue our work. Thank you.
I dont know why everyone assumes that the group has evil intent instead of if there might have been another more plausible reason. Anyways I think its becoming pointless if everybody thinks that the group is just some inner circle on a power trip. So I guess we might as well kill it off. Anyways pear-dev has the assume PEPr system to put anything to a vote any of its members feel like having a vote on. I suggest that those people that feel that the group has become a separate entity which is forcing their opinions into pear-dev start an RFC to get the group removed. To me the purpose was to help pear-dev work efficiently, but I have better things to do then having to deal with these constant accusations. I dont know what the majority feels like, however the majority is sure not defending the group either .. so I guess I have to assume that the majority doesnt care. regards, Lukas Smith smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07
