Hi Dan,
Plus, Hans didn't really cast a vote, though his arguments indicated he was averse to having an indicator.
I thought I did, well I meant to :) -- definitely in favor of no prefix as you indicated (so I assume my "vote" was tallied). I'm sorry if I missed it, but could you clarify whether you are talking about PHP4 or PHP5 classes? If PHP4, why is this being discussed at all; it's not like anything new is being introduced there all of a sudden. And if PHP5, I have no idea why you'd want to add anything to var names when the language is sure-as-hell gonna make sure you follow the rules? (just as it will for 'private') Seriously -- in that case might as well use Hungarian notation too; realistically, that would probably provide more useful information than a '_' prefix on priv/protected. This is in the end pretty trivial, but I think that to do it right by PEAR standards -- especially with such an equal split in opinion -- would be to write an RFC and have offical PEAR devs vote on it. People like me shouldn't really be able to vote on PEAR policy (until I get a package accepted, etc.). Moreover, I'm not sure that all the current voters know what 'protected' means, so I think an RFC that could take the time to explain some background on the concept & PEAR's current standards, etc. would be a more appropriate forum. Hans
