Please, please, please do *not* try to clone .NET. It's nice to lend a few ideas here and there, but don't go any further. PHP is not .NET - and having to work with .NET in my day job all the time, I think this is more of an advantage than a weakness. For many tasks, and *especially* web development, .NET is overly complex, bloated and way too complicated. Also, .NET tends to over-abstract things. Sure, you can do all the nice abstraction layers in PHP as well, but you're bound to run into performance problems rather sooner than later because unlike .NET, PHP is an interpreted language. Do some benchmarks with an application using a hand-coded HTML form that inserts its data with raw MySQL functions and do the benchmark again with a similar form that uses FormBuilder, which is on top of DataObject, which is on top of PEAR::DB and you'll see what I mean.Actually, I provide intranet solutions (ERP, CRM) and I'm not concerned with billions-of-hits a day. I'm more into well-designed, maintainable code. The performance problems I have usually happen inside the database, so that I need to play with indexes, etc... But I dislike abstracting abstracted abstractions as well ;)
PHP is *FINE* as it is. Loosely coupled libraries as found in PEAR are *FINE* as they are. Bundling them together into a framework that fits your personal development methodology will make you the most powerful web application developer in the world, no ASP.NET guru will ever be able to keep up with your development speed!I'm pretty interested by your .NET experience... Can you give 3 smart situations you ran into, as well as 3 bad ones you encountered ? When it comes to web development of course...
(Sorry, I'm currently on vacation and happy to have left the .NET bullsh** behind me for a few weeks, I just had to get this out :-))Right, forget bloatware, JustTypeBind(tm;) -- og
