As stated elsewhere in this thread, I'd like to provide a package
tailored for both versions, but the architecture of PEAR does not permit
this at this time.
There are two concerns here (as I perceive):
1. Not providing packages in PEAR explicitly for PHP5 will damage the
adoption rate of PHP5.
2. Providing new packages only in PHP5 will damage the adoption of PEAR
for those still using PHP4 (who have no opportunity to upgrade).
I think providing PEAR packages on a multi-platform (i.e. PHP 4 and 5)
basis (beyond PHP5 BC) addresses both these concerns. Comments?
