I have had extensive work done with media wiki and I must say that it is the most complete wiki out there (imo). I'm +1 for mediawiki. On 9/29/06, Ian Warner <iwarner@triangle-solutions.com> wrote:

My experience is with WikiMedia [WM] - http://wiki.triangle-solutions.com/index.php/Main_Page Until we get upgraded hardware, this is out of the question for technical reasons, but the good news is that upgraded hardware is imminent, stay tuned for details (a few of us are hard at work off-list to implement important changes in areas such as this one). Good stuff - well done In the past, there was debate about the merits of a wiki for PEAR. I am primarily concerned about wiki spam, and about centralizing information. Those who have experience with wikis, how would you solve these two problems? 1) making sure the thing isn't inundated with spam In WM you can set the default level to only allow registered users to edit anything. registered users must validate there email to become active, captcha extensions are also available. This is one good thing about [WM] the activity on extensions is quite good : http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Mediawiki_Extensions 2) making sure that it is both simple and easy to search both the pear-dev mailing list and the wiki for information, and to link back and forth between the two. The search on the wiki is fine - to search the mailist is another extension. In myopinion they are two different animals - the mailist is for short sharp questions and answers that are required quickly, the Wiki is to store these any answers is conversation or text that needs to be preserved in a nice format that is then editable by a larger community. Incidentally, my experience with forum software is that it is basically a poor excuse for a mailing list with a good archival tool, so I am not in favor of this.
