Incidentally, my experience with forum software is that it is basically a poor excuse for a mailing list with a good archival tool, so I am not in favor of this.
Agreed, please no forums. I think we are all showing our age a little :) I think the new kids use forums, and to stay current it needs to be debated as such, personal opinion counts but its how to harmonise the community and focus on attracting new developers also for the future of PEAR, if they want foums then I really think thats the way to go, difficult to assess though, cant some forums be synced with a Mailist also I think there are mods for PHPBB ? I am getting used to BeebleX now though, I think this tool should be more prominent on the pear site as its a very useful resource.
If we're going to set up a forum (and this is a future thing, of course, main website takes precedence), I would like complete mailist integration myself. I just don't have time to be constantly checking a forum as well for new posts for help.... The nice thing about e-mail is that *everyone* (ever project) can do it. I can get all of my help requests, etc in one place (my inbox) vs having to check umpteen different places. This is crucial for those of us in multiple open source projects. -- Justin Patrin
