I would decide on a case by case basis if it makes sense to give the package its own forum or if to group packages by category. regards, Lukas Smith smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07-----Original Message----- From: Paul M Jones [mailto:pmjones@ciaweb.net]Yes, this is how I feel. Having *only* a mailing list to offer support can sometimes deter people from coming to play. Often they don't like the idea of (possibly) hundreds of emails in their inbox each week. Breaking the forum up in to each of its packages means people can keep their discussion targetted to other users of the same package. Pear-general discussion is often revolving around the Quickform and various DB classes - probably the most popular packages of PEAR?IMHO, a forum is much too inefficient for such a largelist. I'd muchrather use the newsgroup. The list is, in many ways, an agglomerate of users; i.e., one can see the "large list" as a number of smaller lists combined. I say this because much of the traffic is generated by questions about one package or another, and not necessarily of wide or general interest. A forum or similar application would allow packages to have their "own" mailing lists (kind of) without having to "pollute" the general development list.
