Maybe we can compress the two extensions (id3 and mp3) into one? L.A.M.E. comes with id3 tags support. My prototype for mp3_id3tag_write() looks like:

Reading/writing id3 tasks can be done with some quite simple operations, so I'd prefer to do this as a standalone extension. I just took a look at L.A.M.E. and although it looks good, it's quite huge. For reading and writing the id3 tags, only one file of the lib would be needed, so I think it's better to implement this directly in the extension. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to have a second extension, which is able to not only read the id3 tag, but the whole MP3 stream or other audio files. I could offer you my help on this, although I'm quite new to pecl... Stephan
