Andrei,
With PHP 3, I would have wanted to add that the language was written
in the spirit of "little languages" like awk, but simplicity in mind,
but I'm not so sure that claim can be made any more with PHP4... 8^)
How about:
PHP is a simple but powerful cross-platform, general-purpose, open
source scripting language. It can be used stand-alone, but is
particularly well suited for Web development, and can be embedded
within HTML. Its syntax borrows from C, Java, and Perl. It has
commands providing for data manipulation, easy access to a number of
major databases, and important Internet protocols, and is extensible
via an API. It is widley used, and actively supported by a talented
and energetic international development and support team. Numerous
open source and commercial PHP-based application packages are
available.
