On 2000-08-16, Andy Hoffman stated: Hi Andy, list, } Vince, glad you got this working as well... and you're right. The more I've played } with this, the more I believe the php_oci8.dll compiled in php4.0.2dev ONLY works } with 8i (8.1.6 at least). Perhaps the compilation of the dll with php is specific to } whatever oracle version was installed on the build machine? Daniel, any thoughts on } that? That's what I've been thinking until just a few minutes ago. I had a TNSNAMES problem, which may have been the problem I was having with 8.0.5 and 7.3.4. Our TNSNAMES.ora file is on a network drive [G:\TNS] and it turns out that for some reason, php/apache can't read the TNSNAMES.ora file when it resides on that directory. SQL+ has no problems. If I copy the TNSNAMES.ora file to my D: or C: or other local dir, and adjust my httpd.conf file, php has no problems reading the file. Now I *think* I had attempted to do this before with 7.3.4 [copying the network copy of TNSNAMES.ora], and it failed, but I don't remember doing it with the 8.0.5 client. } Anyway... for those still having problems connecting to Oracle with the php_oci8, the } FIRST STEP is to download and install the oracle 8.1.6 client from } http://technet.oracle.com. Mind you, this is a BIG download, so be prepared to do } this overnight if you don't have a fast net connection. Then you can move on to } installing php4.0.2dev from napp - http://www.php4win.de I think Oracle is selling the 8i client on CDROM for just a few USD, which is probably worth it if you're not on at least a T1 [even so, you'll only get about 3k/sec!]. It would be very helpful to learn if php4win was in face compiled for 8i only, as I think that might be true, despite my TNSNAMES.ora problem [mainly because i had two different ora-XXXXX errors] } Vince, maybe we could pool resources on that article (as Daniel asked me to put } something together for the napp site). Whattya think? Most definitely; I'll e.mail you off list for details. /vjl/
