I forgot to mention that I'm not using 8i - I've got 8.0.5.0.0 on my NT

I have been able to connect, finally, using the 8i client. I had been
using first the 7.3.4 client and then the 8.0.5 client with no luck. I was
also able to connect to the db via SQL+ in all 3 cases, but 7.3.4 and
8.0.5 refused to connect via php4.02-dev [naap].

I was finally able to connect to our 7.3.4 db using the 8i client and
naap's php4win distribution, and apache 1.3.12ssl on an NT4sp5
workstation. It took a lot of guess work, as most of the docs I have seen
didn't help connect a non-8i client to the 7.3.4 db. [in my case,
upgrading the client to 8i was the winner - my apache's httpd.conf and
php.ini and test php script all remained unchanged].
Thanks for the help, Andy...
