I originally had the SAME EXACT problem connecting to a network (X: drive in my instance)
install of oracle 8. I have a sneaky feeling this has something to do with Apache/PHP not
being able to path their way to a network drive (I had my x: drive oracle bin in the system
path, but Apache would never display this in it's path settings in phpinfo()) My problem
was also that ALL of the oracle client was on the network (nothing local) so not only
couldn't it find the tnsnames, but it couldn't even find the necessary oracle dlls. yech!
But, when I installed a fresh local copy of 8.1.6 client, all the problems disappeared.
I have a feeling that Apache won't give access to mapped network drives for one main
reason... Security. That would be a potential security hazard if apache's path environment
had direct access to other computers on a local lan. So, we may have to say that you CAN'T
access a Net8 client on a network drive, due to apache restrictions. Anyone else have
thoughts on this?
