} Vince, do you have the oracle bin directory in the path? Perhaps this is why the
} TNS_ADMIN var might be necessary... just a thought. Also, not sure if there's a
} performance penalty in relying strictly on apache/php searching the path for
} oracle dlls (hmmmmm).
If you want to use the default TNS_ADMIN directory, then you don't need to
do the SetEnv for it, as long as you have ORACLE_HOME defined, apache/oci8
assume the "network\admin" part of the TNS_ADMIN path will be available.
I happen to have my TNS_ADMIN set to a different location,
"D:\tns_admin" as I share that directory so that I can have the Oracle
DBAs update my tnsnames.ora file when they update the network
copy. Because of this, I specificly put the SetEnv TNS_ADMIN in my
httpd.conf file. I know this works, as my tnsnames.ora file in my
D:\ora816\network\admin dir doesn't exist! :)
Something else which might be causing headaches - make sure that the
Oracle bin dir is the *first* thing in your $PATH. According to a very
expierenced Oracle DBA [who's sitting in the cube next to me :) ], this
can be the cause of a lot of problems, as Microsoft stuff [Larry vs. Bill]
can sometimes interfer with Oracle dlls, etc. If you make sure the Oracle
bin dir is the first thing in your system path under NT or the first thing
in the path defined in one's autoexec.bat in win9x.
