As far as test cases go, you have several already in the database to reproduce errors and bugs. These could be used as a basis. I think there will be difficulty in some respect to DB connectivity and other modules on determining correctness. I have thought it might advantageous to look at GCC and how they do regression testing. In someways this is what we're dealing with: a compiler, test scripts, expected behavior (fails, and success).
