Hi, I have just summerized below all the decisions made uptil now: ) We have no issue in using the Directi ip-to-country database. No one seems to have any objection with this yet, so I am assuming that we are going ahead with this. ) We are going to use the database initially for the following: ) To display events from the visitors country on top ) To display the visitors country on top in the "mirror sites" page ) To display the visitors country on top in the download pages ) Automatic Redirection is something that we want to do once we have discussed solutions to tackle all the possible situations that arise out of the same. There are quite a few "situations" :o) - so this may take a little time. ) The php website is going to download the ip-to-country database from the directi website in the format that we all mutually come up with using a cron. This format is the exact format that the php website needs. ) Distribution of the db to mirrors and related sites will happen through rsync If I have missed something, please add it to this list. Our next step now is to start building the format of the db by writing test scripts. Let me know if any one need any inputs from my end for this. - Divyank > -----Original Message----- > From: James Cox [mailto:james@imajes.info] > Sent: Thursday, April 24, 2003 7:38 PM > To: Gabor Hojtsy; Divyank Turakhia > Cc: php-mirrors@lists.php.net; jimw@php.net; imajes@php.net > Subject: RE: Manuals and Spiders > > > > > > James/Jim, is there a base of backend data existing on > > rsync.php.net, so > > > > we can use the old ip2country data if available, or is the > > rsync servers > > > > data cleaned before the update scripts are executed and/or on > > a regular > > > > basis? > > > > > > We have a nice stage where we can insert some generated data... > > we should > > > focus on that. > > > > Well, this was not enough to clear the picture for me :) As I > > understand, there are no files we can depend, and need to > download the > > ip2country data everytime.
