Hi,
seriously though. I think this could be a major concept towards helping opensource programming less of a spare time - on my employers time thing. I could envision something like this to be a good addition to existing packages (feature requests, bug database entries as well). You would have to have an organization that grabs the money for a certain period (which the donator can specify) to ensure that the money will actually be available for the developer that implements the solution. When the solution is completed there needs to be some sort of mechanism for the implementor to get to the money. The cool thing about that is what people could add to the original donator. The FreeBSD Project does this. They have a FreeBSD Foundation wich collects donations, and they then give the money (or hardware) to the developers.
The FreeBSD Foundation is a non profit organization and therefore they don't pay so much taxes. bye, -- ------------------------------- ---------------------------------- Michael Bretterklieber - Michael.Bretterklieber@jawa.at JAWA Management Software GmbH - http://www.jawa.at Liebenauer Hauptstr. 200 -------------- privat ------------ A-8041 GRAZ GSM: ++43-(0)676-84 03 15 712 Tel: ++43-(0)316-403274-12 E-mail: michael@bretterklieber.com Fax: ++43-(0)316-403274-10 http://www.bretterklieber.com ------------------------------- ---------------------------------- "...the number of UNIX installations has grown to 10, with more expected..." - Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson, June 1972
