I know it's a bit off-topic but I would be very happy to see the PHP 4 packages longer alive and in active development and that the "active" PEAR would longer be compatible with PHP 4. I know that PHP 4 is "dead" (and has its flaws) and is no longer really supported but it's still used very often and many people (including me) couldn't use PEAR (or then PEAR2) or had to stick with old versions and so bugs. My suggestion would be to go one with PEAR2 like it's planned (PHP 5 only), but still put some "energy" in the development of the "old" PEAR and PHP 4 packages. I'm using PEAR all day and I'm very happy with its power and simplicity and I would be very glad to use an active PEAR in the future with PHP 4.
