Hi Philip,
I completely agree with you here. I think a more important question to ask
is, is PEAR dead? Okay, clearly it isn't, but the usage of PEAR seems to
have been seeing a steady decline over the past several years, but I think
PEAR2 can come to the rescue. PEAR2 is quite the amazing project, and really
does solve a lot of the shortcomings of PEAR1, but it seems to only be
getting love from several people, and is not seeing much testing or
development from the community as a whole. I think more efforts should be
taken to raise awareness of PEAR2 and help promote it, and I think
pear.php.net would be a good place to start. I remember when I first started
using PEAR, it was very popular, with a lot of people blogging about it,
showcasing its abilities, and promoting it, and now it just doesn't seem to
have that same steam anymore. Many thanks to those working on PEAR2, and I
look forward to seeing it revitalize the PEAR project.
Best regards,
--Matthew
