PEAR2 needs evangelism. That's been one of the main issues right from
the start.
I personally see one of the issues for adoption is the relatively slow
pace at which distributions update their PHP. It'll be a few years
from now that people will have 5.3 in most of them.
That's a huge drawback -- e.g. on RoundCube we were leveled for
requiring 5.2 even though that has been around a good, good while. I'm
working on a plugin repo for RoundCube currently and I can't build it
on pyrus because no one would use it then. Maybe not no one, but not
the majority of people.
In general, PEAR lacks some community support. We (Christian and
myself) worked on the planet code a while back and set up a site on
http://planet-pear.org. If anyone wants to be aggregated,
please let
me know so we add your blog's tag/category-based PEAR feed there.
We haven't really advertised it a lot, but traffic is growing slowly,
but surely. :)
I was hoping for more posts (by different people), etc., before we
make a formal announcement. ;-)
