Has there been discussion about what to do with the pear.php.net front page? The current look makes me feel PEAR is dead because the 'hottest news' is some old advisory, and said advisory takes up the entire page. And it's near impossible to decipher an advisory section from a news headline. Thoughts?
I *do* like the rightside bar which shows fresh packages. I think if the main content didn't look so "busy" (bolds and headings and lines equals visual chaos) then the rightside bar would be comparatively more noticable. That rightside bar shows things are happening (ie, PEAR isn't dead.) In the main area of the front page... How does that stuff get onto the front? Mabe we could have someone (or several people) whose job was to put things into some sort of system for displaying there. Then they could load in news items, links to blog articles, security alerts, release of importance, etc. Maybe a separate mailing list for people (anyone) to send "this should go on the front" stuff too and the "front managers" should be able to pre-load things with future dates-- so they can sit down once a week and preload a bunch of stuff to show up in the future. Then we change the "News" section at the top (under the "Main" section) to go to a page that shows more of this front page news stuff. thoughts? -c
