At that time I had bring that design to hannes and helgi's attention
but it never gone forward because silver orange was already in
charge of the task IIRC.
Now that the re-design issue was raised again, perhaps it's a good
time to recall Thiago's idea again. Obviously the design above
covers only php.net front page, but we can "easily" adapt his ideas
to PEAR as well.
I'd vote -1 for that design...
...I don't like navigation on both sides (leaves only a narrow gutter of content in the middle, and is too busy)
...I don't like the color scheme (it looks like PHP and I've always thought PEAR should have an identity of its own)
Big picture: I think changes would be more likely to happen if we make adjustments to the existing design. A complete redesign will surely involve PHP code changes to the website package; Whereas (hopefully) any changes that come of the current discussion would be simple tweaks to the website package.
