And, don't take this the wrong way, but I still wonder why you feel justified making comments on the way other people develop PHP applications because I seem to remember you saying that you haven't really developed a PHP application beyond a two-line script. Sure, you wrote the Zend engine, but it's very different from writing Web apps.If you didn't get it by now, I exaggerated 'a bit' (I started developing PHP after I stumbled on bugs in PHP/FI 2.0 as an end user, remember?). At any rate, even though developing PHP scripts is not what I do mainly, I've seen *many* PHP applications, including huge enterprise ones. In addition, thanks to my inner knowledge of how PHP is designed and works, I can tell what makes sense to do in PHP, and what makes less sense.
