-Let's
say for someone to become a member of the offical PHP
Documentation Group (ie. listed on the frontpage of the
manual), he needs at least three positive votes from listed
authors, and no negative ones.
Contribution listing as a high-school popularity contest, with the "cool people" doing the voting??? This strikes me as a possible disincentive, politicizing a task.
Replying to myself is bad form, but:
If being listed on the front page is a social/economic reward
*and*
A limited number of front-line-authors increases the value of being listed
*and*
Those being listed are voting on any additional listings....
.....What is the incentive to add anyone else? Could, perhaps, a system be established where the same people are listed on the front page for years and years, regardless of their current activity? Has that kind of thing ever happened before? ;-)
Hey! You are citing something from me, which I said before I turned to the side of having a bigger and organized list and having that list only on the credits page to provide more credit to those, who will not be on the frontpage ever.
At the time I have written that text above, I had not seen the great number of unnamed people behind the scences, and thought that the frontpage is enough. But after this (and some nightly running), I had realized that the frontpage is not enough anymore.
If you read that mail, than you can see that I have clearly said that the PHP Documentation Group will contain all the people who we give credit to.

This also means, as we discussed before that we need to select a few who will decide in legal questions (copyright), as there will be no option to ask all members of the group [see that one year was needed to contact everybody about the license change].
This does not mean however that a select few will be able to vote on new member additions. I won't repeat my prosposed system here, which I still beleive in :)
