If you want a database on Linux with transactions, don't forget PostgreSQL
or InterBase (not to mention Oracle, Sybase, etc.). And, you can easily run
both MySQL for your tables that are mostly read and one of the transactional
DBs for your tables that are frequently written.
MS shops tend to use all MS products (IIS+MSQL+ASP) because MS kinda
encourages that sort of thing. And, that is really the deciding factor. The
main reason to use Windows is if a company exclusively uses software that is
only available on Windows (e.g. MSSQL).
