RE: [PHP] ODBC

Well, actually ODBC is not necessarily slower. Most ODBC vendors create drivers that sit on top of the native communication layer (e.g. sql*net for Oracle) instead of writing their drivers directly against the CLI (Call Level Interface) of the database. Find one that does the latter, and doesn't license any legacy code, and you have a very fast layer indeed.
