Not trying to start a flame war here - you actually Frank were one of the
few people who ever replied to me when I had problems with this months ago.
PHP on Apache with Windows was something I could never get working. I scoured
newsgroups and discussion boards - no clear configuration instructions were ever
found. No clear troubleshooting instructions were ever found. I'm not a dummy - I've
been programming longer than I care to remember, but I couldn't get it working properly.
PHP on NT as CGI is just not ready for *any* type of work I need to do -
moderately heavy loads, etc. Yes, it'll work, but when a client has spent
$ on NT, I can't look them square in the eye and say - 'use this - it's 40%
slower'.
PHP on NT as ISAPI - flat out doesn't work for me. People on NT generally aren't going to
use
MySQL. I'm sure loads of people will tell me it works just fine, but my experiences
have been people who have already shelled out for NT are using SQL server or
Access (slow, but it works for them).
I posted messages asking for PHP MSSQL drivers - there are some, but they don't
ever work for me for more than about 5 seconds. 'Access violations'. People
post this in the mailing lists, and there's never a satisfactory resolution beyond
'use CGI mode'.
I realize NT isn't an easy platform to code for - all the more reason why I say
PHP on NT isn't ready for prime time use. If you get it to work, that's great,
but Frank, you're obviously a technical enough guy to be writing
modules for this - I certainly can't, and I don't think most people using PHP
(on any platform) have that kind of skill or time to devote to getting it up and
running.
Back this summer I had a couple other people writing to me (found me
in the list archives) asking if I'd got PHP to run as ISAPI talking to MSSQL
*stably*. They hadn't either, and were extremely frustrated.
This sounds really negative, I know - I don't mean it to be. I sorely
needed PHP to run on NT - I was willing to pay for support services myself,
but there seems to be a distinct lack of support for PHP on Windows.
