Anyway, hearing peoples "thoughts" on why they don't want to use it. My own experiences etc. Perhaps there should be an advocacy group formed? An advocacy group sounds great to me. I believe in the power of PHP to go beyond the Web and do work in other places, which is why I believe in PHP-GTK. However, I think that an advocacy group can only do so much if the common sentiment is that the resources provided are substandard. With that said, I think that the documentation provided on the PHP-GTK site is good, if only half-finished. During this time of waiting for development to begin on PHP-GTK2 (for PHP 5), I think that Steph (from what I understand) would like to focus efforts on improving the current documentation. I hope to make a contribution to improve it, as well. In addition, if you feel that the Web site itself is substandard, then we need to make efforts to improve it. An advocacy team, at best, will mostly point people to the Web site. If the Web site doesn't provide adequate and easy-to-find information, then we've failed in promoting the technology. Thus, in addition to documentation editors/contributors, we need those willing to "spruce up" the Web site and help with the content design. So, it all boils down to this: manpower and, as Steph mentioned, time. I'm willing to help with what little time I have, and if you have time to complain about the site, then maybe you have time enough to help make it better by contributing your ideas and manpower. j/k ;-) Still, I think I'm seeing a quickly renewed interest in PHP-GTK since the release of PHP 5.0.0. Let's not let this interest die out because of an inactive Web site. Rather, I think it would be a good idea to start showing some more activity on these mailing lists and the Web site (perhaps with some routinely updated news and status reports)--something that lets the community know that the project isn't dead and dormant. I'm willing to help keep the Web site updated. Just let me know what to do. -- Regards, Ben Ramsey http://benramsey.com --------------------------------------------------- http://www.phpcommunity.org/ Open Source, Open Community Visit for more information or to join the movement. ---------------------------------------------------
