Ok, great idea in theory. I would be willing to donate some time, I
could only guarantee a couple of hours a week and I would not want to be
involved in any organising or co-ordinating.
The problem I would have is that how do we know we have written the
definative guide (which as you say is what it needs to be). Most of what
i have learned has come from trial and error, some useful help from this
list and the manual but I still feel that I know a bit about a lot. To
write anything useful you need to know a lot about a bit.
For example I use styles in my apps but I have no idea how they work i'm
totally confused, i cut and paste a bit from here, and a bit from there
and somehow it works. I use gtk_entry's in every app I write, but do I
know everything about them? I doubt it.
My other issue would be, do we really want to spend our valuable time
and effort documenting an obsolecent version of gtk? Maybe if there's
anyone porting gtk2 we should be looking to document that and working
with the developers to make sure we get everything.
So to summarise I'm up for it but we have to be very careful not to
produce another incomplete version of the manual.
