Hi
Some people suggested to write more tutorials.
To my mind a number of big tutorials in which everything is explained is too much.
I think there should be a series of tutorials, each tutorial covering one theme, but in detail. Not only a "this is the function, and this are its parameters" - we've got the reference for this - but a small demo application which combines all the needed functions. The demo apps should only contain the functionality needed for the tutorial, no "real" apps - this would confuse newbies I think.
Here are some ideas:
- Nathan has written a menu class which is capable of handling icons. This could be a good starting point for a menu creation tutorial. (With checkboxes, icons, accelerators, ...) [nathan's class is in the wiki]
- Translating the GUI using gettext. I've once written a gettext wrapper which simulates the gettext functions when they are not available; perhaps this could be mentioned.
- Creating and using (xpm) images: How to create them by hand, converting from different formats using gd or imagemagick, changing them during runtime, which widgets can display them...
