If someone has interest on working on this, please contact me and I'll
give CVS access and share some ideas/thoughts I have about it.
There are some parts which I would like to put into PEAR, for example
the 'wizard' class. But otherwise I would like to keep it 'standalone'
project.

Definately. And as soon as we start moving some of the C extension to
PEAR and make them their own projects, they will also need to have
something better than the current system is.
