This is not a double standard. We are just now beginning to enforce a common vision (or even defining this common vision).
I still consider it a double standard, its the good old i got into PEAR in the past so the rules don't apply to but, but they apply to anything new.
Hate to say it, but it sure does look that way. It's the "land grab" analogy again: get in early so you can do what you like, any following competitors have to jump ever-higher bars, and the early entrants don't have to re-jump the new bars to stay in.
Yes if you prefer to interpret things with negative intent.
I have been accurately accused of being a pessimist-by-default -- but that way, all surprises are good surprises. :-) To be clear, I don't think any one person or group of persons is conspiring to implement the "land grab" I describe above. I do see it happening, but as you say, this may be a matter of my inaccurate interpretation of events.
On the other hand you can say there are people before me who build a base I have the fortunate to be able to contribute to.
Indeed, the PEAR base is fantastic, and I hope to contribute to it with Savant.
Sure these guys werent perfect, but they sure as hell have their part in something that has grown to be fairly useful to a bunch of people.
I agree completely! The templates in PEAR are good and useful. But as with DB_Table, I have what I believe are fundamentally different ideas about how to solve a common problem. With DB_Table it was about database abstraction, and this time it is about templates. I have nothing against the other template packages, and I think they are great for their users. But for me, and the other Savant users, they just don't quite do the trick. I think the foundations and philosophical bases of the PEAR templates are significantly different from Savant. I hope enough people in PEAR-land agree with me and vote Savant in; if not, then it will be voted out. And no matter what, I would love to contribute to a new common template system free of any of the legacies of the PEAR template wars, if we can agree on a common baseline trunk from which all manner of branches can extend. -- Paul M.
