I for one think SOAP support would be great. I like CORBA, but I believe
its death is emminent. Within corporations there is lots of movement to
Java/EJB/RMI based solutions and altough Java and CORBA can work together,
the perference seems to be for Java only solutions. Whenever you have
something that needs to cross the firewall, then CORBA fails because its too
hard to get different businesses to agree on using firewall bridges for
CORBA. XML will be the mechanism by which data is exchanged over the
firewall because (a) it requires no firewall reconfiguration (b) MS is
pushing it like crazy.
Although I have no doubt that SOAP will never be as eligent or as well
designed as CORBA, I believe it will be very widely used. Of course, I
think HTML (http) is not really eligent or efficient either and of course it
is VERY widely used.
My 2 cents.
